If Celtic society was headed by a Matriarchy instead of a Patriarchy, it would make a lot of sense why the Celtic women at large would not have intermarried with Romans or Vikings. It seems that the Saxons probably shared a similar culture with the Celts; hence the Celts and Saxons intermarrying at a much higher rate.
